New owners to take over long-running New Ross business

- BY DAVID LOOBY

ONE of the biggest retail shops in New Ross has been sold.

SuperValu announced the sale of SuperValu New Ross to Colum and Bernie Molloy, well-established retailers within the Musgrave network last week. The new owners take over the business this Thursday and a new manager is being appointed as current manager Pat Sinnott leaves his role after many years in New Ross, to work for Supervalu in Waterford.

The store - which is known locally as the L&N after the old London Newcastle supermarket on South Street - will continue to operate as normal with no changes in terms for colleagues at the store which has been run by the Caulfield group for 19 years.

The store’s 44 staff have been told their terms and conditions will be transferred from their current contracts.

They will continue to operate under the SuperValu brand with new owners Colum and Bernie Molloy.

A Supervalu spokesperson said: ‘The Molloy’s are well-established retailers within the Musgrave network. They will continue to offer customers in the New Ross area the very best of fresh, quality Irish produce sourced from local Wexford producers.’

A revamp of the store is planned in the coming months.

‘Everything continues as normal. Colleagues will be employed under the same terms and conditions as before.

Colum and Bernie Molloy will take ownership of the store in the next week.’

This newspaper asked what the premises sold for but the sale price is not being disclosed.
