‘Edible Quayside’ Harvest Festival
THE New Ross GIY (Grow It Yourself ) group, in association with the New Ross Municipal District, have again set up ‘ The Edible Quayside’, a growing display of vegetables and edible flowers on the North Quay, this summer. A group of volunteer members from the GIY New Ross group have maintained the beds throughout the summer. Now the GIY group is organising a harvest party at the vegetable beds on Sunday, August 28, from 2 p.m.
During the party, the GIY group is holding two competitions, a GIY spud-off and a harvest basket contest. The competitions are open to anyone who can bring along three boiled homegrown potatoes or a basket of their own homegrown produce. Some great gardening equipment prizes from the online quickcrop.ie garden shop are on offer. Participants can enter either contest by registering their name (and potato variety if entering the spud-off ) by email to giynewross@gmail.com, or at the harvest party before 2 p.m.
The harvest party will start at 2 p.m. on the North Quay in New Ross. There will be music, food and drinks. The district manager of the New Ross Municipal District, Sinead Casey and Shona Dubois of GIY International will attend and act as judges.
The New Ross GIY Group will hold their next meeting on Tuesday, September 20, at 7 p.m. in the New Ross Library. The talk that night will be on ‘Electing and Planting Fruit in your Garden’. Phone 086 8114997 or emailgiynewross@gmail.com for more information.
