WRITE BY THE SEA, OUR NEW LIT WEEKEND

AUTHORS Billy Roche, Cat Hogan and Paul O’Brien are among an impressive list of Wexford literary names confirmed for the inaugural Write By The Sea, a festival of writing and reading set to take place in Kilmore Quay from September 23 to September 25.

A packed schedule of workshops, readings, conversati­ons and interviews will also feature establishe­d local writers including AM Cousins, Margaret Galvin, Jackie Hayden, Margaret Hawkins, Daithi Kavanagh, Jim Maguire, Peter Murphy and Fiona O’Rourke.

Billy Roche will read from his writings as well as delivering a workshop on playwritin­g. Margaret Hawkins will talk about journalism, and Paul O’Brien will be interviewe­d on stage about his best-selling trilogy of novels Blood Red Turns Dollar Green.

AM Cousins will direct a workshop on writing for radio, Margaret Galvin’s workshop will focus on participan­ts’ personal memories and stories and Jackie Hayden will talk about how he discovered the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas through the Beatles and Bob Dylan.

Cat Hogan will discuss what writers need to do after they’ve completed a new work, and she’ll also talk about her acclaimed debut novel They All Fall Down.

Novelist and spoken word performer Peter Murphy is scheduled to read from his works, as well as offering invaluable advice for aspiring writers.

Daithi Kavanagh will explore the world of e-books, Jim Maguire will hold a workshop on ‘ the journey home’ and Fiona O’Rourke will explore ways of kick-starting your writing creativity.

Further names are expected to be added and up-to-date details will be posted on the website writebythe­sea.ie. Most events will take place in the Stella Maris Centre in Kilmore Centre.

Write By the Sea festival chairperso­n Lucy Moore welcomed the heart-warming response to Kilmore Quay’s first writing and reading festival.

She said: ‘ That so many establishe­d Wexford authors have agreed to give of their time and talents is a terrific boost to the village.

‘We are also indebted to the RTÉ Radio One programme Seascapes who have agreed to broadcast the winning entry of our special writing competitio­n with a maritime link.

‘ The festival should appeal to beginners as well as experience­d writers while reading enthusiast­s will have the opportunit­y to hear our most popular authors talk about their writing.’

Prices for Write By The Sea are: Weekend Ticket €50, Day Ticket €28, and Individual Event Ticket €13. Tickets can be booked online at writebythe­sea.ie.

The inaugural Write By The Sea festival will officially open with a reception on September 23 sponsored by the Saltees Fish Company.

Write By The Sea is supported by Wexford County Council.
