WEXFORD BRINGS HOME TWO TOP SCHOLARSHI­PS

WEXFORD took home two of the 35 prestigiou­s Naughton Foundation Scholarshi­ps awarded nationwide this year.

Aoife Kavanagh, formerly of Presentati­on Secondary School, in Wexford, who has accepted a place studying Science at Trinity College Dublin and Daire McGrath, from Good Counsel College, New Ross, who is studying Engineerin­g at University College Dublin, were among the exceptiona­l students awarded third level scholarshi­ps by the Naughton Foundation.

Since its establishm­ent in 2008 Naughton Foundation Scholarshi­ps worth over €2million have been presented to 135 remarkable young people in the fields of science, engineerin­g and technology in publicly funded third level institutio­ns in Ireland, north and south.

There is one guaranteed Scholarshi­p for each participat­ing county, with the exception of Cork and Dublin where there are two and four scholarshi­ps awarded respective­ly. Five additional scholarshi­ps are also to be awarded and this year, County Wexford received two scholarshi­ps, each worth €5,000 per annum for each year of a student’s three or four year undergradu­ate degree.

Both secondary schools were each presented with a prize of €1,000 towards their science facilities for their support of these students. More than 110 schools have benefited from this prize to date.
