WEXFORD BRINGS HOME TWO TOP SCHOLARSHIPS
WEXFORD took home two of the 35 prestigious Naughton Foundation Scholarships awarded nationwide this year.
Aoife Kavanagh, formerly of Presentation Secondary School, in Wexford, who has accepted a place studying Science at Trinity College Dublin and Daire McGrath, from Good Counsel College, New Ross, who is studying Engineering at University College Dublin, were among the exceptional students awarded third level scholarships by the Naughton Foundation.
Since its establishment in 2008 Naughton Foundation Scholarships worth over €2million have been presented to 135 remarkable young people in the fields of science, engineering and technology in publicly funded third level institutions in Ireland, north and south.
There is one guaranteed Scholarship for each participating county, with the exception of Cork and Dublin where there are two and four scholarships awarded respectively. Five additional scholarships are also to be awarded and this year, County Wexford received two scholarships, each worth €5,000 per annum for each year of a student’s three or four year undergraduate degree.
Both secondary schools were each presented with a prize of €1,000 towards their science facilities for their support of these students. More than 110 schools have benefited from this prize to date.
