Ross run riot

-

NEW ROSS RFC J2 hosted Gorey J3 in ideal autumnal conditions in Allianz Park on Saturday and wasted no time in laying down an early marker, with Jamie Cullen crossing the whitewash within the first five minutes after some slick backs inter-play.

This was followed up moments later by a try from Nathan Prendergast out wide on the left and a conversion from Niall Coughlan.

Gorey then converted a penalty just to the right of centre to punish Ross indiscipline at the breakdown.

This served to galvanise the home side into a period of dominance which led to further tries from Cullen (three), Dimond, Dean Prendergast, Dunbar, Niall Coughlan and Manning before half-time to leave the small crowd of supporters gasping for breath and wondering if the century could be breached.

The break was followed by further tries from Duffy (four), Niall Coughlan, Tim Coughlan, Cleary and Bartek as superior fitness in the home team pressed home the advantage and the bench was emptied.

This was all despite the Ross centre partnership racking up an estimated 80 years between them.

Over the entire match, Niall Coughlan added 20 points from conversions with Duffy and Walsh also contributing to keep the scoreboard moving from the tee.

Despite the enormous pressure they were under, all credit must go to Gorey for keeping their heads up and finishing strongly.

This reporter felt that Chris Dimond deserved the man of the match accolade for a very high workrate and multiple marauding carries off the back of the solid Ross scrum.
