1 BUY MY DRESS SALE: Fashion lovers from around the county will be flocking to the Amber Springs Hotel in Gorey this Saturday night, October 8, for the Buy My Dress sale in aid of the Down Syndrome Centre. The fundraiser which has the support of Lorraine Keane offers women from across Wexford the opportunit­y to bag a designer dress at a bargain price. Organised by Carolyn Dowdall, Sinead Brogan and Susan Longmore the annual fundraiser has been a big hit in Gorey for the past six years raising vital funds for the Down Syndrome Centre which support over 180 children with Down Syndrome and their families without the benefit of state aid. From 11 a.m. on Saturday until 5 p.m. there will be a wide ranging of designer and top quality pre-loved dresses on sale giving women the chance pick up a very special dress for a knock down price. If you have a dress to donate you can bring it along on the day as well. Several well known fashion icons including Amy Huberman and Wexford’s own Charlie Murphy have also donated dresses to the cause. To donate a dress contact Carolyn at 087 6172362.

2 MUSICAL FUNDRAISER: A musical fundraiser that will help sick people to go to Lourdes will be held in the Talbot Hotel on Sunday, October 9. With a bill featuring a wide array of local artists including Ger Busher, Static, George Lawlor and more, the event is set to be a fun occasion for all of the family. Along with music, there will be plenty of prizes up for grabs on the day in the free draw. Tickets cost €10 and are available on the door. All funds will go to the Ferns Pilgrimage fund for invalids. Doors open from 2.30 p.m. and the music will kick off at 3 p.m. Those who wish to buy tickets or make a donation can contact William at 089 4297434.

3 FERNS BIGGEST LOSER: The local GAA club in Ferns is running a Ferns Biggest Loser fundraiser which will be launched in the Courtyard on Friday night. Taking place over eight weeks the challenge will finish up on December 2 and aims to help people get fitter, more active and if necessary lose a few pounds. Events taking place over the course of the event include a cycle and a forest walk. For more details visit the club at fernsgaa.com.

4 VROOM TOWN: A Children’s Book Festival event Vroom Town will take place at Wexford Library on Saturday, October 8. Vroom Town is a wonderful place where all types of trucks with all types of personalit­ies live, work and play! Machines called Screech, Bulldozer, Tim the Tipper and their friends come to life with author Emer Conlon. This workshop is suitable for children aged three to seven years. 5 JUNO AND THE PAYCOCK: St. Michael’s Theatre presents Juno and the Paycock by Sean O’Casey from Thursday to Saturday, October 6 to October 8 nightly at 8 p.m. in a star studded cast featuring some of the best acting talent from the south east. Making his debut in New Ross as a director is Wexford’s Paul Walsh, one of the south east’s premier drama directors. Paul has assembled a wonderful cast including All Ireland winning actress Hilda Conway as ‘Juno’, the matriarch of the family, and her husband ‘the Paycock’ played by Eugene McGloughli­n.

6 MARY COUGHLAN: Mary Coughlan will pick up the mic in Enniscorth­y’s Presentati­on Centre for a gig on October 8. The popular singer will entertain the crowds with some of her best known hits from her ten albums, including her latest ‘Scars on the Calendar’ in May 2015. The casual listener may know ‘Ancient Rain’, ‘Invisible To You’ or maybe ‘Man Of The World’. These may well be among the greatest of Mary’s hits. She also dedicated an entire double-album to her love of Billie Holiday and has taken inspiratio­n elsewhere from Van Morrison and Edith Piaf, among others. The gig will begin at 8.30 p.m. Tickets cost €20.

7 CAMROSS PLAYS: Camross Drama Group will bring their series of one act plays to venues across the county from next week. ‘In for a Penny’ by group member Mary Brown is the group’s festival play entry and has been accepted by Kilmallock, Goresbridg­e, Palmerstow­n and Gorey festivals. ‘Marrying Mary’ by JK Lyons and ‘The Fat Lady Sings – in Camross’ by David Tristram are two comedies, which the group are promising will keep audiences laughing. The plays will be staged in Wexford Arts Centre on October 7 and 8 at 8 p.m.; in Rathangan Hall on October 21 at 8 p.m. and in St Mary’s Hall, Fethardon-Sea on October 23 at 8 p.m. Tickets cost between €10 and €12.
