SPECULATION is rife in the Ballinaboola area about whether the lucky €500,000 Euromillions winner is a local.

Joined by his family, the lucky Lotto winner travelled to Dublin on Thursday to collect his winnings. The ticket was sold at Drive Service Station in Ballinaboola. The emotional winner said: ‘ This is a life changing, once in a lifetime win for my family. I am a full time carer for members of my family and we were living from week to week on my carer’s allowance. €500,000 will make a huge difference to our lives.’

A EUROMILLIONS ticket sold at Drive Service Station in Ballinaboola has changed the life of a County Wexford carer who pocketed €500,000.

Joined by his family, the lucky Lotto winner travelled to Dublin on Thursday to collect his winnings.

The man, who wishes to keep his win private, purchased his winning EuroMillions Plus ticket on the day of the draw last Tuesday.

Having collected his cheque, the emotional winner said: ‘ This is a life changing, once in a lifetime win for my family. I am a full time carer for members of my family and we were living from week to week on my carer’s allowance. €500,000 will make a huge difference to our lives and it will take the everyday pressures of making ends meet away for a long time.

‘I have worked hard all of my life to take care of my family and those around me. This money will go a long to make sure that we are all secure for many years to come,’ he added.

Speculation is peaking in the Ballinaboola area about whether the lucky winner is a local.

Drive Service Station Manager Patricia Murphy said the win was the service staton’s first big Lotto windfall, adding that the team at the petrol station and shop are delighted for the winner.

Speaking on Wednesday morning just as news broke about the Euromillions win, Ms Murphy said: ‘ There is a lot of speculation in the area but we have loads of people passing by who stop in to us to buy Euromillions tickets. It would be great to see it go to a local person.’

The winning ticket is the 20th EuroMillions Plus top prize win of €500,000 in 2016.
