Lourdes students tackle Leaving Cert anxiety

-

To promote good mental health Sixth Year Prefects at Our Lady of Lourdes Rosbercon have launched a whole school campaign that focusses on the benefits of strong mental wellbeing for all students.

They identified anxiety as one of the most challenging aspects of the Leaving Cert year. Tutors and Year Heads with the Pastoral Care team came on board with their idea and plans began to formulate.

The first whole school event which was chosen was participation in the Dark to Dawn walk hosted by St Joseph’s Athletic Club Rosbercon in aid of Pieta House.

A huge number of students with their families braced the crisp morning air to take part in a very moving and worthwhile event at Pink Rock.

A school spokesperson said: ‘ Our campaign will continue with the Amber Flag Initiative. This national programme aims to promote and actively bring about a cultural change in the promotion of positive mental health within schools and organisations. The stigma associated with mental health must be eliminated so that young people will seek help sooner when issues arise. Quality of life then can be improved for students if they have been victims of bullying, racism or isolation for example.’

The PASTORAL Care team hope to come up with other events during the year where everyone can get involved so that they feel supported on their journey through school.
