Name and shame street dirtying dogs – Chairman

-

DURNIG a debate on the need to take action against dog owners who let their pets foul up walking areas in the county, chairman Cllr Paddy Kavanagh suggested naming and shaming the dog culprits.

Cllr Martin Murphy inquired if there is any plan in place to erect cameras in strategic areas to observe the foul deeds taking place.

One councillor suggested: ‘It’s not the dogs, it’s the dog owners who are responsible. To see what they’ve done on the quay front (in Wexford) and in public spaces and in places where people are walking. Is there any scope to look

at it with a view of putting a more severe penalty in place .’

Director of Services for Housing, Environment and Emergency Services John Carley said: ‘Unfortunately people aren’t reading the signs about dog fouling and dog owners are ultimately responsible. Having said that the council are playing a part and we’re trying our best.’

Cllr Kavanagh joked: ‘Can we name and shame the dogs?’

Cllr Davy Hynes said most dog owners take responsibility for their pets.

‘ There is a small minority who are making life hell for people.’
