Men Who Built Britain author to give talk
THE AUTHOR of a seminal work on the Irish in Britain is giving a talk and hosting an exhibition at Mullinavat Parish Hall - opposite the church – on Thursday, November 24, at 8 p.m.
The event has been organised by South Kilkenny Historical Society lecture and an exhibition, related to the topic, will be on display.
Ultan Cowley was born into a theatrical family in Ireland in 1946. His late father, John Crowley, was the star of the popular television series, ‘ The Riordans’.
Crowley lived for many years in Britain. He first ‘ took the boat’ at fifteen, to serve as a Boy Entrant in the RAF.
In 1994 Crowley wrote a history of Irish involvement in the construction of the Manchester Ship Canal, entitled ‘ Paddy & the Big Ditch’, which was commissioned by the Irish World Heritage Centre as part of the Centenary celebrations for the ship canal. Crowley is author of The Men Who Built Britain, which is the definitive history of the Irish in British construction.
