Oaklands lake to feature on TV series next summer

-

OAKLANDS course angling lake outside New Ross town, which is famous for its carp species, is to feature in an episode of a new series entitled the Great Irish Fishing Challenge.

The episode, which is due to air in the summer, will conclude the 13-part series which looks at 13 different species of fish in 13 different lakes across the country.

Oaklands Lake attracts around 9,000 fishermen every year from across Europe and in 2016 lead to 800 bed nights in the locality.

Co-Manager Adrian Browne said a Dublin based film crew arrived in late November and filmed for one day. The programme delves into angling in Ireland.

The film crew used drones to shoot images of the lake, which is surrounded by Kelly’s wood forest for the programme.

‘ The setting appealed so much to the production team who said Oaklands is unique as it is located in a valley surrounded by woodland.’

The fishing business has been open for 17 years and publicity from the programme - which will be aired on Eir Sport and might be snapped up by RTE and TV3 in the comning months - will attract more publicity nationally. VERY creative ceramic art exhibition opened in Youth New Ross in late November.

This was the culmination of a very successful Youth New Ross summer programme where up to 40 young people created individual 3d beautiful ceramic art pieces along with some very impressive totem poles for the garden that reflect their interests and personalities.

The project was a collaborative piece of work between ceramic artist Mairead Stafford from Ballyelland Pottery in Castlebridge and 40 young people from Youth New Ross and the youth workers.

The idea behind the project was to develop a community garden in the centre that the young people have designed and can be used by them to grow their own produce or to sit and chat to friends.

Youth New Ross would like to thank the young people and volunteers for taking part, Mairead Stafford for her help and Wexford County Councils Artist in the Community Scheme who part funded the project in conjunction with Youth New Ross.
