Time to congratulate all those who tasted victory
THE HORSESHOE year is over, and now it’s time to congratulate those who have had a good year, especially all our winners and runners-up.
Here’s the list of winners from Wexford for 2016 –
Singles events: Wexford Division 1, Michael Redmond (Woodsmen); Wexford Division 2, Nigel O’Toole (Vinegar Hill); All-Ireland Division 1, Paddy Connors (Woodsmen).
Doubles events: Wexford Division 1, John Joe Byrne and Brendan Earle (Monageer); Wexford Division 2, Nigel O’Toole and Paul Farnan (Vinegar Hill); National Ploughing Championship, Paddy Connors and Phil Mahon (Woodsmen); international doubles, Michael Redmond and Paddy Connors (Woodsmen).
Team events: county championship Division 1, The Woodsmen; county championship Division 2, Monart; Leinster Open Division 1, The Woodsmen; Leinster Open Division 2, Monart; Wexford League Division 1, Monageer; Wexford League Division 2, Doran’s Bridge.
It was a good year for the Woodsmen, with two of their players taking the All-Ireland and Wexford singles titles respectively.
Special mention to Paddy Connors for his first All-Ireland singles - some would say it was long overdue.
The Woodsmen also had many team successess this year. However, Monageer will be happy with the league title and a Wexford doubles title for the year.
In Division 2, Nigel O’Toole ruled the roost, with a singles and doubles win which is a rare occurrence.
It was a good year for Monart, who did however miss out on the league to Doran’s Bridge.
A lot of different teams achieved success in County Wexford over the year.
