SCHOOL THRILLED WITH TADHG’S GESTURE
HE MAY BE making headlines around the world for his powerhouse performances for Ireland and Leinster, but Tadhg Furlong has certainly not forgotten his roots. The Campile native made a surprise visit to his old school Good Counsel last week to drop in the Ireland jersey he wore for Ireland’s historic victory over the mighty New Zealand. The unassuming prop surprised staff and students with the gesture, and the jersey will now take pride of place in his old school.
IRELAND international rugby star Tadhg Furlong recently donated the jersey he wore in Ireland’s historic victory over the All Blacks at Soldier Field in Chicago to his old school, Good Cousel College.
Good Counsel College Deputy Principal Aidan O’Brien said: ‘On a Monday recently, at lunchtime, two days after helping Ireland beat Australia and being named player of the series, Tadhg Furlong strolled into my office, unannounced, dressed in a tracksuit and t-shirt, clutching a green jersey in his hand. He proffered the jersey saying, “ah I just dropped in to give you this”.’
The jersey in question is one he wore on his ninth cap in Soldier’s Field, Chicago on the occasion of the famous victory over the All-Blacks.
‘ The generosity of the gesture was matched only by the modesty with which it was made. We will display it with pride,’ Mr O’Brien said.
