A ‘proud’ night for Kent
NEW Chairman Derek Kent promised delegates honesty and transparency during his five-year term of office.
Following his election he spoke of it as being a proud night for all who helped him, a proud night his his club, parish and family.
He said that during his campaign he found many issues the principal one being with the club, which going forward he hoped to address.
He also said that for Wexford the aim is to play in Croke Park in august/September something they have failed to achieve since 1996. With that in mind he welcomed the two new managers, adding, that he believed they had now the coaching structures in place in the county.
Kent said the results in finance is a credit to the Finance committee with the Model County Draw being the main source of income.
New Vice-Chairman, Micheal Martin, spoke of having served as an Officer in the past while for the past three years served as club officer, where he observed first hand the frustrations with fixtures, in trying to promote the club and getting members involved within the club. He said his main purpose is to drive Wexford G.A.A. forward both on and off the field.
Shamrock’s Aoife O’Connor spoke of it as being a huge honour to have been elected as Assistant Secretary. she said it’s a huge honour for her and a small club like the Shamrocks to have representation at the top table.
Coaching Oficer, Bobby Goff, said his main focus in the coming year will be on the All-Ireland Hurling Feile, while another focus is increased participation at Urban levels, an area where they need to improve a lot.
Development Officer, Cathal Byrne, informed delegates that they hoped to have the second phase of the Centre of Excellence in Ferns completed in time for the All-Ireland Feile. This will include the fitting out and completion of the upstairs of the Clubhouse, with toilets,k gymnasium, kitchen and first aid room, while they also hoped to have a third pitch fully floodlight.
P.R.O. P. J. Howlin said that he had worked the position as P.R.O. for the last six years at under-age level. In his new role now at adult level he would do his best to promote the club and players in the county.
Oifigeach Gaeilge & Cultur officer, Cian O Lionain, informed delegates of his previous involvement in Irish and Culture. He spoke of having pride in their county and its history and he hoped to have people involved during the year.
