€2,500 RAISED AT ANNUAL FUN RUN IN TEMPLEUDIGAN
THE Templeudigan St. Stephen’s Day fun run and walk was a huge success raising €2,510 for charity.
Organisers Templeudigan Parish Council were delighted with the turnout which saw almost 200 people of all ages participating. Many children brought with them the bikes and go-karts they got from Santa the previous day and it was a lovely sight.
While most people taking part did a leisurely walk there were also a lot of competitive runners who were attracted to challenging route. The first participant to complete the 8km route was local man Joe Lillis who returned home in 33 minutes. He was followed shortly afterwards by Peter Ryan from Enniscorthy.
The €2,510 raised on the day will be donated to the Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust. This charity is based in St. James Hospital and provides a range of support services to cancer suffers and their families.
Peter Somers, Chairman of Templeudigan Parish Council, thanked everyone who took part on behalf of the organising committee.
‘Our St. Stephen’s Day Walk and Run was a great success and turned into a wonderful social occasion. Almost 200 people took part and we met participants from a wide area from New Ross town to Graiguenamanagh and Enniscorthy. We would like to thank them all for coming to Templeudigan to take part.
‘Everyone joined us in our local hall afterwards and it was a lovely opportunity for our community to celebrate Christmas together. We were delighted to raise €2,510 on the day and we will be donating this to the Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust, a worthy charity which provides valuable support to cancer sufferers and their families.
‘We would like to thank all of the local community volunteers who gave their time to make this event such a success.
‘We would not have been able to organise this social event or raise this money for charity without the support of local volunteers. We hope to hold another St. Stephen’s Day walk and run in 2017 to support another charity.’
