1 WEXFORD’S GOT TALENT AUDITIONS: The auditions for Wexford’s Got Talent take place this weekend at Clayton Whites Hotel. Competitor­s are now invited to pre-book their free audition spot online at www.wexfordhas­talent.com. Alternativ­ely anyone wishing to take part can also attend the audition weekend without a pre-booking and take a place in the queue during the audition weekend. The winners of the Wexford Has Talent competitio­n 2017 will walk away with a €2,000 prize fund and, for the first time, two new additional prizes of €500 have been added to the prize pot. The competitio­n is entirely free to enter. A panel of at least three independen­t judges will judge each of the auditions. Successful qualifiers from the auditions will be notified of a place at either the first semi final on January 14 or the second semi final on January 21 where they will perform in front of a live audience and a panel of judges. The finalists from each of these events will qualify for the ‘Wexford Has Talent Grand Final’, which takes place on February 11. 2 BRENDAN GRACE: The veteran comedian, singer and actor Brendan Grace makes a return visit to Wexford for a show at the Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorth­y on Saturday, January 7 8PM with showband support act Nostalgia. Grace is one of nation’s favourite comics who is best known for his schoolboy character ‘Bottler’. His 1975 song ‘Combine Harvester’ was number one in Ireland in 1975 and became a UK hit for The Wurzels in 1976. His acting credits include Father Ted, Moondance, Kilinaskul­ly and The Gift along with the television movie Bottler in 2013. He has appeared at venues around the world and shared the stage with well-known names such as Frank Sinatra and John Denver. 3 PANTOMIME: Wexford Pantomime Society’s production of ‘Beauty and the Beast The Panto’ takes place at the Dun Mhuire Theatre from December 10 to 15. Tickets are priced from €10 for children and €15 for adults. Call the Box Office on (053) 9123061 or call into the Dun Mhuire. There will be matinee performanc­es on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, January 14 and 15, commencing at 2.30 p.m. while the nightly shows kick off at 8 p.m. Rehearsals have been taking place for months and this promises to be a show that will appeal to all ages, with a great line-up and dialogue. 4 REELING IN THE SHOWBAND YEARS: Reeling In the Showband Years returns to Wexford at the National Opera House for what could be the very best line up yet! The Ronan Collins Showband Show Reeling In the Showband Years has been a smash hit for the past 8 years. It was a complete sell out last year right around the country and booking will be heavy, so get your tickets fast! January 7 at 8 p.m. Tickets cost €30, call the box office at 053 9122144 to book. 5 HOUSE OF STORYTELLI­NG: The Ár mBreacha House of Storytelli­ng, at Raheen, Ballyduff, Camolin, will kick off its 25th anniversar­y celebratio­ns with tales, songs, and music by the fireside this evening Tuesday, January 3, at 8 p.m. All are most welcome along and they are encouraged to bring their visitors, friends, and children. You can take your turn to perform if you wish, or simply sit back and listen, soak up the atmosphere, and enjoy the fun. Ár mBreacha is open on the first Tuesday of each month from 8 p.m. No admission fee. 6 NEIL DELAMERE: The award-winning comedian Neil Delamere will deliver a stand-up gig in in Clayton Whites Hotel, Wexford, at 8 pm on Friday, January 6 as part of his national Handstand tour. Delamere is one of the top acts working on the Irish comedy scene and as an accomplish­ed broadcaste­r is well known to audiences for his regular appearance­s on RTE and BBC television along with his sell-out stand-up tours. He is the host of a weekend show on Today FM and the star of RTE’s The Panel and 2nd Republic and BBC’s The Blame Game, Fighting Talk and Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow. 7 ICE SKATING: The Wexford People Wexford on Ice skating rink will be open daily on Wexford quayfront until Sunday, January 8. Visitors of all ages from three years upwards are invited to twirl away on the ice. If you are nervous or a first time skater, there are stability aids to help you glide along. Skating starts at 3pm Monday to Thursday and 11 am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The last skate each day is from 9 pm to 10 pm with the last skate on Sunday from 8 pm to 9 pm. The off-peak (Monday to Thursday ) adult admission price is €13 and €11 for children up to 12 years and on-peak (Friday and Saturday) it’s €15 and €13.
