THE PERFECT AMBASSADOR
THE Gorey-based artist Kate Kos (pictured right) who recently had one of her paintings presented as a gift to the outgoing US Ambassador to Ireland, will hold an exhibition of her work in the Pigyard Gallery in Selskar, Wexford in February.
A watercolour of Glendalough painted by Kate was bought by BT Ireland and presented by company managing director Shay Walsh to the former US ambassador Kevin O’Malley at a gala dinner in the RDS. The painting was given in recognition of Ambassador O’Malley’s contribution to Ireland.
Kate was delighted when she heard about the presentation as was the Gaslamp Gallery in Gorey where the painting was purchased and where her work is on regular show.
The artists’s exhibition ‘Waterside’ featuring coastal and river landscapes including images from Wexford and The Hook, will open in the Pigyard Gallery at Spectrum Art Shop on Thursday, February 9 at 6 pm. and will continue for the remainder of the month.
Kate is a native of Poland who came to live in Gorey 13 years ago, working for several years in a gardening nursery before becoming a fulltime artist a year ago. she has been painting watercolours since 2007.
She has drawn and painted since she was a child and studied architecture in Poland. She paints in a fearless, free and expressive way, utilising bold and vibrant colours to capture landscapes, street scenes and flowers that manage to convey a lightness and delicacy of touch.
Kate teaches evening classes to adults in the Gaslamp Gallery where they are very proud of their resident artist and of her recent national acclaim. ‘ This is a truly wonderful recognition of Kate’s talent as an artist and we are very proud to showcase her work,’ said a spokesperson.
