NEW Ross Musical Society’s 2017 production of Singin’ in the Rain opened last night (Monday) with a splash to rave reviews.

The audience danced their way out of the theatre having experience­d one of the most spectacula­r production­s New Ross Musical Society have ever staged, thanks to fine performanc­es and a rain machine brought in from London.

The audience were blown away by the live rain storm that took place on the stage. Singin’ in the Rain is without doubt the most famous movie musical of all time. Adapted from the 1952 movie of the same name starring Gene Kelly, Singin’ in the Rain set in Hollywood in the waning days of the silent screen area.

It tells the tale of actor Don Lockwood, his sidekick Cosmo Brown and aspiring actress Kathy Selden.

New Ross Musical Society’s production is directed by Derek Shannon and choreograp­hy is by Anne-Marie Cooney and the musical director is Philip Kennedy, while the production manager is Paul Malone, the stage manager is Sarah Collins and assistant stage manager is Mark Hayden. This show features a magnificen­t cast led by James McDermott as Don Lockwood, Yvette Walsh as Kathy Selden, James Dobbs as Cosmo Brown and Caroline O’Connell as Lina Lamont. Gearoid McCauley as R.F Simpson, Tom Joyce as Roscoe Dexter, and Zoe Smith as Zelda Zanders. This production also features many other local talented faces including Sean O’ Brien, Carmel Rowe, Phyllis Smith, Martyn Gladney, Nicky Flynn and Monica Murphy making up just some of the cast.

This will be a fantastic night’s entertainm­ent for all the family.

New Ross Musical Society spokespers­on Sarah Collins said: ‘ This year due to popular demand we have added a matinee performanc­e on Sunday, March 11, at 3 p.m. Tickets for this performanc­e cost €12 each or four tickets for €40. There are limited tickets left for the week so book now to avoid missing out on the magical spectacle that is Singin’ in the Rain. You won’t want to miss this magical production so grab your umbrellas and join us in being transporte­d back to 1920s Hollywood.’
