Wexford man is appointed to the Pyrite Resolution Board
A WEXFORD man and former St Peter’s student has been appointed to the Board of the Pyrite Resolution Board.
Derek Sinnott, from Duncormick, is Waterford Institute of Technology’s Head of Department of the Built Environment.
The Pyrite Resolution Board was appointed by the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Simon Coveney under the Pyrite Resolution Act 2013 to make a scheme for the remediation of damage to certain dwellings caused by pyritic heave and to oversee and ensure the effective implementation of a programme of remediation works for affected dwellings.
The ‘pyrite remediation scheme’ is a scheme of last resort which aims to repair certain homes affected by significant pyritic damage where the homeowners have no other practicable option for redress.
Dr Sinnott said, ‘I am delighted with my appointment to the board and I am looking forward to working with the Board and Housing Agency in the implementation of the pyrite remediation scheme.’ He is a son of Sean and the late Breda Sinnott, and has a brother Brian who is based in Dublin. Mr Sinnott lived in Kilkenny for 11 years before returning in 2015 with his wife Serena and family (Sean and newly-arrived Niall) to his home place in Duncormick. After completing secondary school at St Peter’s College, Wexford he studied Civil Engineering at WIT and NUI Galway. He worked for a number of years in the civil/construction industry before joining WIT as a lecturer in 2005 where he has lectured in Engineering Mechanics, Structural Design, Construction Materials, Geotechnics and Sustainable and Renewal Energy Systems. In 2013 Dr Sinnott was promoted to Head of Department of the Built Environment in WIT’s School of Engineering.
