Wexford CBS on crest of a wave
IT WAS a week to remember for the Wexford CBS first year soccer team.
On Tuesday they defeated Arklow CBS on a 3-1 scoreline to claim the Wicklow/Wexford League title after an impressive team display and an Aaron Roche hat-trick.
CBS held a two-goal advantage at half-time before Arklow pulled one back and enjoyed a good spell.
A well-marshalled Wexford defence, with Darragh Carley leading those around him, weathered the storm as the Boker boys held their talented rivals at bay.
Roche struck again late on to seal both his hat-trick and the silverware for the boys from Wexford.
It has been a remarkable season so far for the Wexford CBS boys as they have managed to put together a magnificent run, winning all ten competitive games so far this season in both league and cup.
They rounded off a fantastic week on Friday in the Leinster Cup semi-final, defeating Coláiste Pobail Setanta from Clonsilla 7-1 after a truly breath-taking performance.
A Jack Wilde double, Aaron Roche, Kyle Clancy, John Hore, Eoin Hartigan and Jack Foley (with a beautiful 25-yard free-kick) were on the scoresheet as they blew their opponents away to book a final spot against Boyne Community School. They hope to claim an elusive Leinster title for the school and an All-Ireland semi-final place.
They will certainly take to the field with confidence after their incredible run in this competition which has seen them dispatch Ratoath C.S. 9-0, Clonkeen College 5-0, Lucan CBS 4-0, St. Mac Dara’s of Templeogue 3-0 and now C.S. Setanta.
These boys have played some truly awesome football all year long during this remarkable run and hope to continue doing so in the Leinster final which is down for decision on March 29. MOYNE Rangers set up a last 16 tie against local rivals Shamrock Rovers by easily accounting for Crossabeg’s second string in their Wexford Volkswagen Cup third round match on Sunday.
The Enniscorthy side ran out 9-0 winners, thanks to hat-tricks from Peter Marsden and James Peare, a double from Pa O’Rouke and a Dillon Redmond goal.
Division 1 outfit Curracloe thwarted the brave efforts of Division 3A champions-elect Wexford Albion, edging out the town side 3-2.
Shane O’Connor and Paddy O’Reilly got on the scoresheet for Albion but Aaron Donovan netted a match-winning hat-trick for the seasiders.
