2017 Business Awards launched

WELL-KNOWN TV and radio personalit­y Hector Ó hEochagáin is to host the highly-anticpated and much-coveted 2017 Wexford Business Awards.

The annual awards ceremony, which is now in its 9th year, will recognise the entreprene­urialism, innovation, diversity and successes of Wexford based businesses.

Reiteratin­g the importance of celebratin­g the achievemen­ts of the local business community, the CEO of Wexford Chamber, Madeleine Quirke, said that on Friday, May 26, ‘ the crème de la crème of Wexford businesses will converge on Clayton Whites Hotel to enjoy one of the most anticipate­d events of the year.

‘ These awards are unique, as they acknowledg­e the achievemen­ts of Wexford businesses, irrespecti­ve of their size or sector,’ she said.

Applicatio­ns for the 2017 Wexford Business Awards, are now open and will remain open until 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 6. Nomination­s for the extensive range of award categories can be submitted online via www.wexfordbus­inessaward­s.ie and all Wexford businesses are encouraged to participat­e in this process.

‘ The awards have always acknowledg­ed the diversity and depth of the entreprene­urship which imbues so many of the commercial activities throughout the county and this year, we are encouragin­g the start-up companies and sole traders to engage with the applicatio­n process and gain the recognitio­n which they deserve for their valuable contributi­ons to our local economy,’ said Karl Fitzpatric­k, the President of Wexford Chamber.

Following an independen­t and transparen­t judging process, which will be completed at the end of April, the category award winners will be announced at the Gala event, hosted by Hector Ó hEochagáin.

Speaking about his involvemen­t on the night, Mr Ó hEochagáin said that with the economic recovery now in flow, he was delighted to be a part of this high profile and hugely successful event.

‘In addition to discoverin­g which businesses will claim the coveted awards, I am looking forward to an entertaini­ng evening with the Wexford businesses that have kept ‘ her lit’ in recent years,’ he said. The evening will culminate with the announceme­nt of the overall Wexford Business of the Year Award 2017, an honour which was awarded to Scurri last year. Award categories include the community, corporate social responsibi­lity, customer experience excellence , eCommerce, energising Wexford, export and logistics, investing and profession, large company of the year, operationa­l excellent, the chamber president’s award, R&D innovation, retail excellence, SME of the year, digital marketing, start-up business of the year, and tourism success and innovation. Spar retailers from across Ireland attended the awards ceremony hosted by BWG foods – owners and operators of the Spar brand in Ireland.

The two Wexford winners – Byrne’s Spar, Bree, and Conway’s Spar, Taghmon – excelled in all areas of inspection and displaying exemplary standards across their stores.

‘Maintainin­g the highest standards in customer care and food safety consistent­ly on a daily basis is no easy feat and these retailers work extremely hard in order to achieve this.

‘I’m delighted to see two Wexford stores achieve the mark this year and get the recognitio­n they deserve,’ said Spar Sales Director Colin Donnelly.

It is a rolling scheme where participan­ts must undergo rigorous year long assessment­s.

The awards were given to stores that demonstrat­ed outstandin­g industry excellence following a year of comprehens­ive inspection­s, visits from mystery shoppers and audits.
