LIBRARY NEWS

Jobseekers and Business Informatio­n Evening – This event takes place in the library on Tuesday, March 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. It presents an opportunit­y for local job-seekers, under-employed, budding entreprene­urs and businesses to come together under one roof and discover the range of resources, support, informatio­n and guidance available. Representa­tives from various agencies including Intreo, Kilkenny ETB, LEO, Citizens Informatio­n, Kilkenny Leader Partnershi­p, Community Employment Scheme, Turas Nua, Graiguenam­anagh Bank of Ireland and Credit Union will be in attendance to offer advice and answer questions.

Meet-and-Greet with Nicola Pierce – The highly successful ‘One Book One Community’ programme is now drawing to an end. To mark the occasion Nicola Pierce, author of Spirit of the Titanic, will be in the library from 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, to meet with people and have a chat. She will follow this with a talk at 8 p.m. An opportunit­y not to be missed.

Closing Dates – The library will close at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, and re-open on Tuesday the 21st at 10 a.m. – we wish everybody an enjoyable St Patrick’s Day. Please note that we will also be closed on Wednesday, March 22, for staff training. Apologies for any inconvenie­nce caused.

World Book Day raffle – Congratula­tions to Derry Gahan winner of the world book day raffle held in the library.

TIM RYAN R.I.P.

The death took place on Sunday last, March 5, at his residence of Tim Ryan, Tyroe, Graiguenam­anagh, who was in his late eighties. Tim was a renowned handball player who played with his local club Ullard and won many trophies including the junior softball doubles all-Ireland when he partnered Syl Lennon also from the Ullard Club in 1955. Also in 1965 Tim partnered Joe Delaney from Talbot Inch to win the senior softball doubles all-Ireland and he won many other all-Ireland medals in the Masters and Golden Masters Championsh­ips. He survived by his wife Stasia and sons John and Séamus, sisters Jane, Betty, Eilleen, and Peggie. May he rest in peace.

PARADE

The Graiguenam­anagh St Patrick’s Day parade will take Place on Friday, March 17, at midday, The parade starts from the Borris road and the reviewing stand will be located in Tinnahinch, immediatel­y over the bridge on the right hand side.

ROAD IMPROVEMEN­TS

Local Cllr Chap Cleere has confirmed that Graig roads are to receive a big boost in 2017 following the completion of this year’s roads program. €150,000 has been put aside for a full overlay and surface dressing on the R705 in Ballyogan. In addition the L8242 in Aghclare is to receive €60,000 for road restoratio­n improvemen­t this year.

Chap has also confirmed and welcomed the news that €7,500 has been put aside for footpath repairs in both Woodlawn and Brandon Park. Chap has welcomed the news and is looking forward to works progressin­g very shortly.
