ST PATRICK’S DAY IN NEW ROSS, DUNCANNON, CLONROCHE AND GRAIGUENAMANAGH

-

WITH fairies, dragons and leprachauns with pots of gold, this year’s St Patrick’s Day parade in New Ross had the crowds fired up on a cold spring day.

With fantastic floats from more than 50 groups, this year’s parade was the biggest ever and it drew a massive crowd. With new businesses taking part, there were nine more floats than in 2016, showing the community spirit and an improvement in the local economy. In keeping with tradition the parade wound its way through the town from the Irishtown to the quay, stopping at the Three Bullet Gate.

A wonderful array of groups from the New Ross Sea Scouts who won best walking group for their Celtic theme, to 2 Many Dance Moves who won Best Original Costume for their hippy and fairy theme, to sporting groups and the Tullogher Rosbercon Vintage classic car club who celebrated the centenary of the Ford motor company, took part.

One of the organiser Cllr Anthony Connick said: ‘It was great to see the crowds and to see the community spirit of the town starting to come back.’

Among the new groups were Tesco, which won best float, Molloy’s Supervalu, Quantum Motors, Bricks4Kids and New Me New Ross. New Ros Credit Union won best topical costume. The best vintage group were Tullogher Rosbercon. Browne’s Photography won best window display and the adjudicator’s prize went to Cumas.

Cllr Connick thanked the committee for thier hard work.
