Inaugural blitz a big success
Coláiste Bríde overall winners
FERNS CENTRE of Excellence was resplendent while hosting the inaugural Wexford Under-14 schools county ladies’ football blitz.
Nearly 200 girls from throughout the county put on a feast of football. Seven schools were represented and the quality and commitment was evident throughout the day.
The blitz was the brainchild of Gorey Community School coach Anita Hughes and, with the help of her colleagues and the Wexford ladies’ Development Officer, Robbie Garland, the event was a major success.
Gorey Community School, Loreto (Wexford) and Coláiste Bríde brought two teams each, and the ‘A’ division served up some very competitive games, with Coláiste Bríde taking the honours.
Gorey Community School and Loreto (Wexford) had some drama of their own in a nail-biting shootoff to decide who was placed in the final after finishing level on points.
The ‘B’ division saw Presentation emerging as champions by defeating a gallant Bridgetown. Some great games were on display with Ramsgrange, Gorey Community School, Coláiste Bríde, Creagh College and Loreto (Wexford) thoroughly enjoying the day.
Sincere thanks to everyone who made what will no doubt be an annual event possible: Anita Hughes, Robbie Garland, Seamus O’Brien (Ferns Centre), Terry Canavan, Eddie Leonard and Catherine Boggan (referees), and lastly all the teachers who give their time and energy to helping students develop their game.
