ACADEMY’S PLAN IS TO GET PUPILS PLAYING

GERALDINE O’HANRAHAN’S GAA Club launched its Primary School GAA Academy at the state of the art Edmund Rice Senior School, New Ross, last week

The academy, which will also include Catherine McCauley Junior School, was formally launched by Derek Kent, County Board chairman, in front of a large attendance.

School principal Brian McMahon formally opened events and welcomed all to their new school. He said he was very excited with the new plans for GAA within the school.

Club chairman Brendan Kelly addressed the gathering and said that he was very excited with the plan to have an ongoing coaching plan for the school for the foreseeabl­e future. This plan will involve up to seven top-level coaches attending the school with a view to enhancing the skill level for GAA of all kids within the school.

He said the coaching plan will be very inclusive and is designed to cater for the needs of all children. He added he wanted to see the school compete in Rackard league again and each kid transfer to his or her own age group within the club.

He thanked Brian Mc Mahon, Alma Sutton and Niamh King for their support and encouragem­ent in the launch of the academy and said it was an absolute pleasure to work with such people.

The club presented the school with jerseys, footballs, sliotairs and a variety of equipment to cater for the schools needs. He thanked everyone at the county board for their support with the project, the sponsors and his own committee for all their work bringing the day to fruition.

Several county players attended the launch and posed for photograph­s with the children making the day a great success.
