The Digital Local Collection will be formally launched by Cathaoirleach of Wexford County Council, Paddy Kavanagh on Tuesday, May 25, at 7 p.m.

The launch will be immediately followed by a lecture by distinguished historian and former Head of Special Projects at the National Archives, Catriona Crowe.

Catriona will speak on the topic of ‘Fragility, Intelligence and Salvation: the advantages and challenge of archives digitisation.’

The digital archive will make Wexford related local studies material available for research, study and enjoyment to a wide audience in Wexford and nationally and internationally.

The collection will be immediately expanded with the inclusion of the oral history interviews, recorded over the last 10 years.

A digitisation strategy will guide the development of the Digital Local Collection. This strategy will determine, what is digitised; how Wexford Public Libraries can make cultural treasures available digitally; and, how to develop community archiving, capitalising on the community participation in the commemorative programme, all the time preserving records of our heritage for future generations of Wexford people and diaspora.
