Classy Corach clinch place in Premier Division

-

CORACH Ramblers earned their place at the Premier Division table next season when they travelled to Kilmuckridge and overcame St. Joseph’s 4-1 on Tuesday of last week.

John Staples headed the Carrig-on-Bannow boys in front on 34 minutes but St. Joseph’s levelled matters with a penalty before the break.

Gareth McCurtin fired home a 25-yard kick to restore the Ramblers advantage just before the hour mark, and goals from Darren Sinnott and Niall Harney wrapped up the win.

Second-placed Bridge Rovers were held to a draw by St. Cormac’s on Tuesday night, and went down to a 2-1 defeat away to St. Leonards on Thursday.

On Sunday they were back in action against St. Joseph’s and it was a better day for the Castlebridge men as they ran out 5-1 winners to put themselves within touching distance of a place in the top flight.

Kevin Murphy and Ray McGlone both helped themselves to doubles, with Mark Mythen grabbing their other goal.

Tombrack United overwhelmed a young St. Leonards side 10-0 on Sunday thanks to a hat-trick from Mick Kelly, doubles from James Coleman and Eoin Carton, and goals from Kevin Kenny, Jamie Walshe and Matthew Hendrick.

Forth Celtic dragged themselves out of the relegation zone with two wins in the past week.

On Wednesday evening they won 2-0 in Tombrack with goals from Darragh Rossiter and Darren Jordan.

They followed in up with 2-1 away win over Curracloe on Sunday, with substitute Lee Busher netting the winner with 15 minutes remaining. Paul Underwood got the other goal for the Murrintown men.
