Adamstown re-adjust to life back in second grade

blocked by a defender but still ended up in the net.

Adamstown responded impressively though, with Hickey knocking over a couple of frees before their second goal arrived out of nothing.

Paudie Barden screwed a wayward kick into the air, but it was gathered on the left by Tomás Harrington who showed a clean pair of heels to Jamie Keating before finishing powerfully to the net (2-6 to 1-2).

The gap stood at eight points by half-time, but Clongeen were a good deal more competitive in the second period.

Adamstown always kept them at arm’s length and more though, only conceding two points to Jamesie Rochford and Cathal Murphy in a bright first ten minutes from their one-time under-age partners.

Clongeen didn’t help their cause by missing a couple of scoreable frees, and Adamstown had eased back into a double scores advantage (2-10 to 1-5) by the three-quarters stage after points from Ian Bradley and a Conor Hickey free.

Hickey pointed again, this time from play, before Paul Curtis briefly re-ignited faltering Clongeen hopes with a stunning individual goal from a swiftly-taken Cathal Murphy free.

The gap remained at six points though, with a late exchange between Murphy and Tony French leaving Adamstown with plenty to build on as they turn their attention to facing St. Mary’s (Rosslare) on Sunday. Clongeen, in contrast, will need an improved showing to overcome Ferns St. Aidan’s on Saturday.
