WEXFORD employer Zurich Insurance is looking for candidates for a dedicated Apprenticeship in Insurance Practice.
The programme, which is open to new applicants for the second year, is designed to offer job seekers and those looking for an alternative to college the opportunity to secure a three-year training and development opportunity with Zurich, at its centre of excellence in Drinagh.
Accredited by the Insurance Institute of Ireland (III) and Sligo IT, the Apprenticeship is now available for online applications, with an information day taking place on May 9.
Initiated by Zurich and developed by the insurance industry and the III, the programme focuses on developing learners’ core skills through challenging on the job experience and an extensive range of world-class training supports.
Apprentices will be able to earn while they learn and work towards achieving their Professional Diploma in General Insurance, with the opportunity to go on to secure a Level 8 BA Honours Degree in Insurance Practice.
In addition to professional training during their placement, successful applicants experience first hand the extensive skills required to work within Zurich’s various business areas by completing rotations in Underwriting, Claims Handling and Direct Client Advice, before specialising in one area for their final year.
Speaking about the announcement, Head of HR at Zurich in Ireland Daragh Byrne said: ‘We’re delighted to launch this programme for the second year running, following the success seen in 2016.
‘Working alongside some of the top professionals in the insurance industry, participants in the Apprenticeship to date have really impressed us with their enthusiasm and ability to learn new skills. We’re seeking out hard working, passionate people with a willingness to engage, and look forward to seeing the new candidates that 2017 has in store.’
An open information day will be held by Zurich in their Centre of Excellence in Drinagh from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. on May 9, while applications will be accepted up until Wednesday, May 31.
The event for interested candidates, for which attendance is optional, will provide information around the programme as well as open CV and interview clinics to help prepare prospective candidates.

The companies met travel professionals based in Austin, Chicago and Boston. The busy schedule involved a 60-minute TV show format highlighting the island of Ireland, as well as networking sessions with travel and lifestyle journalists – providing an excellent platform to showcase and sell County Wexford, Ireland’s Ancient East and Ireland to important travel decision-makers in each city.
This was the second stage of the 2017 series of ‘Jump into Ireland’ (JITI) sales blitzes; in all, the ‘ Jump into Ireland’ programme will visit nine different cities in the US this year, targeting hundreds of influential travel agents and travel writers.
Alison Metcalfe, Tourism Ireland’s Head of North America, said: ‘ Tourism Ireland has prioritised North America for 2017, as a market which offers a strong return on investment, in terms of holiday visitors and expenditure.
‘A number of factors are working in our favour, including more airline seats than ever before, from 20 gateway cities across North America to the island of Ireland, with numerous new flights and expanded services in the pipeline for this year.’ Similar ‘Jump into Ireland’ events will take place in San Diego and San Francisco (California) and in Houston (Texas), in November.
