TADHG-ER IS A LION!
AFTER WEEKS of speculation, people across the New Ross district were overjoyed on Wednesday to learn that Campile man Tadhg Furlong was named in the Lions squad. Speaking about his Lions selection, Tadhg, right, said: ‘If I get a game I will try to represent my people in New Ross as best as I can. I’m really looking forward to the tour.’
LIONS tighthead Tadhg Furlong was the star guest at this year’s New Ross Rugby Club dinner dance night, which attracted a crowd of 170 people to the Brandon House Hotel recently.
The Campile man took time out from his busy schedule to meet club members and fans, at the dinner dance.
Tadhg spoke with Kieran Tracey from the club in an informal discussion about his unbelievable year, outlining the joy he felt at lining out in the green shirt in South Africa to securing a starting place in the team, and of his joy at being part of the winning Irish team against the All Blacks at Soldier Field in Chicago in November. He also acknowledged the role New Ross RFC has played in his career and congratulated the first team on moving up a division.
Everyone enjoyed a great meal, followed by music from Route 66 and DJ K.
There was great interst in the raffle prize, a photo montage of Tadhg from his games playing against South Africa, the All Blacks, Australia and England.
Noel Bennett of New Ross RFC said: ‘It was a great night. Tadhg was more than happy to pose for photographs for people. He is the nicest young fella you could meet.’
On the night the club announced that Ireland coach Joe Scmidt and former Ireland international and rugby commentator Tony ward will be debating rugby at a special event at the Brandon House Hotel in early September.
