Marlfield House NOMINATION: Wexford Tourism-Success and Innovation

-

ONE of Ireland’s most celebrated country house hotels Marlfield House is renowned for its warm hospitality. An Oasis of tranquility and charm and with 19 bedrooms, it has a refreshingly relaxed atmosphere, mirrored by the courtesy of the Bowe family and their dedicated team. Originally opened by Mary and Ray Bowe, their daughters Margaret and Laura took over the reins 10 years ago.

Long time member of Ireland’s Blue Book and Relais et Chateaux the hotel and its conservatory dining room have received many awards over the years. Set on 35 acres of manicured gardens the house bears all the signs of a much loved home. The house and gardens also provide the most romantic backdrop for an exclusive wedding celebration. Today’s diner is looking for a more casual eating out experience. Local Irish ingredients, food Providence and contemporary cooking are a given.

With this in mind The Duck Terrace Restaurant was conceived and designed by Margaret and Laura Bowe. The newly established restaurant, terrace, bar and cafe is in restored courtyard buildings overlooking the kitchen garden and provides an idyllic setting for alfresco dining. It is a unique and relaxed dining experience enjoyed by visitors throughout the year. The ‘garden to plate’ experience is intensified for diners who observe chefs picking and gathering vegetables and herbs while they sit and enjoy their fare. The food, much of it from the garden, is modern fusion and Italian and is best described as delicious and moreish. Open daily from 11am the Duck serves lunch till late, dinner, coffees, patries and cockails.
