WEXFORD V LAOIS, O’MOORE PARK, PORTLAOISE, SUNDAY MAY 28: There is a palpable buzz around Wexford hurling this year, something that has been missing for quite some time. The appointment of Davy Fitzgerald as manager of the Wexford Senior hurlers re-energised the squad, and one of the main goals of the season has already been achieved in imrpessive fashion – promotion to Division 1A of the National League. But summer is upon us and there is a whiff of Championship in the air. First up for the Senior hurlers is a Leinster quarter-final clash with Laois in Portlaoise. The Model faithful are expected to travel in numbers to support the hurlers in their first Championship game of the summer, and Davy’s men are odds on to progress. A win on Sunday means Wexford will host arch rivals Kilkenny at Innovate Wexford Park on Saturday June 10 in what is sure to be a sell-out. The main talking point for Sunday is that Davy Fitzgerald will have to watch from the stands as he serves an eight-week ban for an altercation during the League semi-final. But that should not impact on what should be a comfortable Wexford win.

WEXFORD FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL: The festival will take place Saturday, May 27, and Sunday, May 28, in various venues around Wexford town and has become an established food and drink event here in the South East. They endeavour to have as many of the events free of charge as possible and some events do have a small charge purely to cover costs. Any profits generated are donated to charities. This year there will be more exhibitors than before and the 2017 programme will be bigger and better. For more information on events visit www.wexfordfoodfestival.ie
