Trip To Knock – Our annual trip to Knock will take place on the Friday the 14th – Saturday, July 15. The cost of the trip is €120 PP all inclusive. A deposit of €20 is required to secure your place. For more information on this trip contact Betty at 087 9057391.
Thank You – Grantstown would like to say a big thank you to Tagoat Daycare, who came for a visit last Monday. It was lovely having our friends over and a great day was had by all. We look forward to visiting the Tagoat Centre soon.

The A team had their last game of the season today away to third placed Tombrack and were looking to finish off our title winning season with our 14 consecutive league win, we were missing over half our regular squad today and we got off to a bad start when Tombrack took the lead in the second minute.
We were struggling to get into the game and it was 2-0 on 11 minutes when Tombrack got through again, our players were trying hard but with so many changes and players playing out of position we were finding it difficult and on 20 minutes we went 3-0 down, but you don’t win leagues without having a bit of fight.
We never stopped trying and on 32 minutes we pulled one back when Niall cut in past a couple of defenders and blasted a shot to the back of the net. A minute later it was 3-2 when the ball was worked into the box and jimmy picked it up and put it past the keeper into the far corner.
On 36 minutes we pulled level when a great ball from Richie found Niall, who slotted past the keeper, and on 40 minutes we got a penalty when Niall was taken down and he stepped up to put it past the keeper for a 4-3 halftime lead and a remarkable turnaround.
Tombrack came out fired up for the second half but our defence stood firm and on 65 minutes we went 5-3 up when a long free from Jack was flicked on by Niall to Richie, who finished clinically past the keeper. We were starting to tire now as due to different reasons we only had the bare 11 today and Tombrack pulled one back on 72 minutes.
Then on 74 minutes they equalised and now we were struggling but on 80 minutes we had a quick break and as Niall was about to shoot he was pulled back and we got our second penalty which Niall buried past the keeper for a 6-5 lead and we held out for the last 10 minutes for victory in a remarkable game.
A massive effort from all our players today but a special mention to five players in particular Seán, Jack, Joe and mazy who stepped up from the b team having not played for a number of weeks and Jimmy, who has been out injured. All five gave it their all today.

‘It was a long season which started with training last July and we had three trainers during the course of the season, Jack, who got us up and going at the start, much appreciated lad, Colm Murphy your sessions and your input were a massive help to us and to Paul Diskin, who also doubled up as my assistant and had the lads in top shape all season with his training sessions, it was a pleasure working with you. Thanks to our team sponsor Mick Walsh of Mick’s car wash and valet wellingtonbridge. To my wife Clodagh and my kids, I hope the cup is some payment for you having to put up with me being away so much all season.
‘We played 31 games in all competitions this season scoring 95 goals and conceding 43, our top scorer was Niall with 30 goals in all competitions with 23 of them coming in just 15 league games, hermi hit 19 goals despite missing part of the season through injury and Gareth with 13 goals with the rest spread out among the squad. Well done to Gareth on winning division one player of the year.
‘We played some excellent soccer during the season and we battled when we had to getting a remarkable 55 points out of a possible 60 in the league and we will enjoy our few weeks off now before we get back preparing for the premier division next season which will be a big challenge but one we are all looking forward to.
TAGHMON UTD 2 CORACH RAMBLERS 2 – Taghmon and Corach finished all square in a thrilling opening tie in the Richie Dwyer over-35s League.
Corach came out of the blocks right from the start and were causing Taghmon problems all over the field and should have went ahead on Two occasions when Niall Murphy headed just wide and Jason McCutcheon’s low drive was brilliantly saved by John Fitzpatrick in the Taghmon goal.
The home side then settled into the game after 15 minutes and dominated the rest of the half. There dominance paid off on 28 minutes when Trevor Berry unleashed an unstoppable free kick to the net from 25 yards.
The second half saw Corach spring back into life only to be dealt a huge blow when another direct free kick from berry made it 2-0 on four 5mins. To Corach’s credit they rallied for a quick response and got one, when a dangerous cross from Niall Murphy deceived both keeper and attackers to find the net on 55 mins. Their determination was paid off when another cross wasn’t dealt with and Alan Diskin was on hand to tap home the equalizer.
2-2 was a fair result. Both teams will have strong ambitions of a top four finish and rightly so. Best for Taghmon on the day were Jason McGloughlin, Jimmy Doran and Trevor Berry while for Corach, Mick Walsh, Alan Diskin and John O’Leary shone brightest. SOCIAL DANCING

The Junior Hurlers had a great win over Clongeen last Sunday in their League Match.
The Intermediate Football took on Taghmon in the Tom Hickey Cup on Wednesday last and had a 11 point win. Well done, lads. Final score B/B 21 points T/C 10 points.
The Junior Ladies match was called off due to bad weather. They were to play Taghmon.
The under-16 boys had a two point loss against St James on Monday last in Mersheen.
This Saturday the Féile commettiee will be selling lines in Wallace’s. If anyone has an hour to spare to help please contact Kristie Sinnott.

The president of the GAA arrived in Carrig on Tuesday last and took a tour of the school. He was visiting most of the school’s coming up to the Féile which Wexford are hosting this year.

Deepest sympathy to Sharon Carroll and family Caislean an Dinigh on the death of her mother Betty Carroll last week. Her remains were reposing at Kearney’s Funeral Home, Selskar Street on Thursday with removal to the Church of the Annunciation, Clonard. Funeral Mass was on Friday with burial afterwards in St Ibar’s Cemetery, Crosstown. May she rest in peace. HISTORICAL SOCIETY AGM
