Classy camogie skills on show at Gusserane blitz
Gusserane Camogie Club hosted an U10 Camogie Blitz recently on home ground where neighbouring clubs, Bannow Ballymitty, Fethard, Horeswood, Clongeen and St James’s competed for honours.
Proving the adage that there is nothing like a derby match, the event saw many entertaining games between neighbouring clubs and all the girls did their best and in a competitive spirit.
One of the blitz organisers said: ‘It was a fantastic turn out by all the girls. 93 girls turned up on the morning and we put in a mighty effort to ensure that they had fun games with a competitive edge. All girls went away with goodie bags and everyone had a sociable morning, enjoying teas, coffees and cakes afterwards.’
The U10 Gusserane Girls team displayed top class camogie skills, and as always with this bunch of girls they dug deep and gave it everything they had, and finished each match with great strength and massive heart.
‘Each and every one of them are a credit to themselves, their families and their club and are a pleasure to train. Their futures are very bright and its early in the season so there is lots more in store. Thanks to the parents for beautiful confectionery and helping in the clubhouse. Thanks to our stewards Jason Scott, Thomas Foley and Noel Byrne for helping with the parking, Thank you to the referees on the morning, Mary Fitzharris, David Jenkins, Enda Dillon. Thanks to the mentor of our own girl team Pierre O’Loughin and Linda Foley for managing the fixtures and the logistics of the morning and to the girls themselves for providing such entertainment.’
The Gusserane U10 panel were: Lauren Twomey, Courtney Whelan, Niamh Byrne, Emma Jenkins, Evelyn McCormack, Leah Kent, Caolainn Scott, Amy Symes, Annie May Codd, Katie Ryan, Abby Power and Isabelle Kinsella.
