Students’ amazing efforts rewarded

KENNEDY COLLEGE formally acknowledg­ed the academic and extra-curricular success of its students last Tuesday.

Students, teachers and parents gathered at the college for its annual awards ceremony, which was opened with a performanc­e by 1st Years displaying their skills on bongo drums, bodhrans etc. learned during the year as one of the Junior Cycle initiative­s. Principal Suzanne Barrett welcomed guests, Jim Moore, Chairman Waterford/Wexford Education Training Board, Denis Kennedy, Chairman Board of Management, Kennedy College, Stella Kehoe, New Ross Credit Union, past pupil Nicola Gannon, members of the board of management and parents associatio­n, parents, guardians, staff and students.

Ms Barrett praised the students for their hard work and dedication throughout the year and the staff for their commitment to the school. 3rd and 6th year students were wished the best of luck in their forthcomin­g exams. Student of the Year awards went to: 6th Year male and female students sponsored by New Ross Credit Union were presented to Niamh O’Connor and Jack Molloy and to Leaving Cert Applied student, Ciara Murphy. The other recipients of student of the year were as follows: Jake Canning 1st Year, Ryan Cullen 2nd Year, Jennifer Canning, 3rd Year, Jake Kelly Transition Year and Aaron Wall 5th LCA.

The best Junior Cert result 2016 award went to Brandon O’Riordan. The best Leaving Cert result 2016 went to Vanessa Connick and the best Leaving Cert Applied 2016 was awarded to Dylan Delaney Walsh.

Merit awards wre awarded to students throughout the school year for excellent work, behaviour and engagement in activities. A special Life Long Learning Award was presented to the school’s much loved senior student Denis North. Denis is sitting Leaving Cert English and Geography this year. He took Leaving Cert History in 2016 and Leaving Cert Maths in 2015. All Ireland boxing finalist Adam Kelly Kinsella and All Ireland Junior Girls Boxing Champion Leah Richardson were preented with awards for their sporting achievemen­ts.
