CLOTHES COLLECTION

Ballyculla­ne parents’ council are holding a clothes collection on June 12. If anyone has any of the following items we would be glad to take them: men’s clothing, women’s clothing, children’s clothing, household textiles. ie curtains, towels etc soft toys, shoes, handbags, belts, laptops and mobile phones please keep laptops and phones in a bag or box together. Unfortunat­ely we cannot accept dirty or wet clothing, mats, carpets, duvets/pillows and books.

If anyone has any of the above items can you please drop them to ballyculla­ne school before 9.30 a.m. on June 12 also you can have your items picked up from your home by contacting Clodagh Barry at 087 9314692 or any members of the parents’ council. TINTERN LOTTO

CHANGE OF VENUE for the bingo this Sunday it will take place in Ballymitty as a drive in Bongo at three o’clock. Two thousand euro in prizes to be won.

The intermedia­te football team travelled down to take on the St Anne’s team in Rathangan on Friday last in the league and headed home with a two point win. Well done, lads.

The junior ladies’ football squad lost by only three points against St Fintan’s during the week. Improving every match well done girls.

Bannow historical society held its AGM on Monday, May 29, in Tír na nÓg, Wellington­bridge. A good crowd attended and it was nice to see some new members on the night. Chair. Anne Farrell opened the meeting and welcomed old and new members on the night. She then handed over the meeting to Rich Howlin and he spoke of developmen­ts in the society during the course of the previous year.

The minutes of 2016 AGM were read and adopted. The chairperso­n then addressed the meeting and the secretary, treasurer and pro gave their reports. Rich Howlin then proceeded with the election of the officers.

All of the 2016 officers were re elected: chairperso­n Anne Farrell. Vice-chair: Dennis Kenny. Secretary: Dermot McCarthy. Treasurer: Pádraig Kenny. PRO: Kevin Murphy. Committee; Rick Donnelly, Anne Lacey, John Harpur, Andrew Moore and Jimmy Whitty.

This year’s annual historical tour will take place on Saturday, July 15.

FUNDRAISER FOR RORY

A young member of the Fethard GAA Club, Rory Whelan was recently struck down by a very serious illness, Guillan-Barre syndrome and has been in Temple Street Children’s Hospital since his diagnosis.

Despite his young age Rory is one of the best known and most popular players in the club and everyone was delighted when he became a member of the Wexford under-14 Hurling squad earlier this year. We all wish Rory a full recovery from his illness but this is likely to take months.

Fethard St Mogue’s Coiste na nÓg hope to raise money to help Rory and his family cope during this period and have organised a fundraiser in Ramstown GAA pitch on Sunday, June 11. This will consist of a Walkathon from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Novelty Relay Race at 11 a.m. Féile Challenge Game at midday. Tea, coffee and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please come along and support. Fethard St Mogue’s GAA Club are organising a Rose of Fethard event. This will see a number of ‘Ladies’ from the local area competing for the coveted crown. Such is the interest in the event that the organising committee are holding it in the Community Centre, Ballyculla­ne. The event will take place on Saturday, June 24, admission €10 with Hanton’s Bus providing transport there and back for €5. Full bar facilities available on the night, more details later. There was a tie for first place in the Progressiv­e 45 Card Game in Colclough Hall, Saltmills last Sunday night between Johnnie Doyle, Eileen Doyle and Dick Power and Joan Fardy, Pat Whelan and Willie White. In third place were Luke Power, Billy Shannon and Jack Waters. The last game draw was won Jimmy Cullen, Margaret Cullen and John Joe Murphy. The Fethard-on-Sea Country Market Biz Bake Off, held on Sunday, May 28, in St Mary’s Hall, raised over €3,000 for Rory’s recovery. Twenty-eight chocolate cakes were entered by local businesses. The Overall Winner was St Mary’s Hall Committee with their ‘Rory’s Chocolate Factory’ cake. Gemini Hair and Beauty won the People’s Choice award with the most votes for ‘ Jimmy O’Leary’s Garage’ cake. Hanton Coaches won the Best Tasting chocolate cake with their ‘Piggies in a Puddle’ cake.

Local man, Philip Roche is one of a number of cyclists who is taking on a 300KM Cycle from Mizen Head to Hook Head, in aid of Autisitc Unit Poulfur and Our Lady of Fatima School Wexford. A few dates for your diary: June 10 – Pitch and Putt rencontre will take place in St Patrick’s in Enniscorth­y. July, seventh – The Garden Party will take place in An Grianán (ICA Head Office). 14 of the ladies will be going to the event this year as this is our annual outing.

Our next meeting will be on June 12 and the monthly competitio­n will be the ‘prettiest ornamental useable jug (any size)’. The Camross ICA Guild is a bunch of friendly ladies always ready to welcome new comers, so why not come to the meeting on June 12?
