Congratulations to the Fethard St Mogue’s under-14 Hurling team who were crowned all-Ireland champions when they defeated district rivals Horeswood in the Div. Five Final in Kilkenny last Sunday. The boys had good two good wins in Mersheen on Friday evening defeating St James and Pádraig Pearce’s from Roscommon.

On Saturday morning they played their own visiting team Moorefield from Kildare in Ramstown. This was a hard fought game with Fethard just doing enough to win out in the end. They travelled to Bagnelstown in Carlow to take on the home side in the quarter-final. Fethard proved to be much too strong and qualified for the semi-final versus Michael O’Dwyers of Wicklow in Danesfort, Kilkenny on Sunday morning. Fethard made light of the heavy schedule to claim victory and qualify for the all-Ireland Final.

Fethard put in another great display in the final to be crowned champions. Congratulations to all the lads and to their mentors on this great achievement. Success does not happen overnight and this group of players and mentors have put in a huge effort over months and even years to bring this success. The victory was all the more notable as the team were deprived of their inspirational goalkeeper, Rory Whelan, who is battling a serious illness, no doubt this success will be a huge boost to him. Our Féile under-14 Camoige team was also busy over the weekend.

The girls had enjoyed victory over a Cavan side on Friday evening in Kilmore before defeating their visiting team Eglish from Tyrone on Saturday morning to qualify for the shield quarter-final. Despite a brave performance the girls bowed out at the quarter-final stage. COUNTRY MARKET
