70th Adamstown Show a celebratio­n of country life

THE ADAMSTOWN SHOW is 70 years going this July and this year’s show will be the best yet, with something for everyone to enjoy.

Thousands of people are expected to descend on Adamstown this Saturday, July 1 for the 70th annual Adamstown Show.

The agricultur­al, horticultu­ral, arts, crafts, trade and vintage show will officially kick off at 10 a.m., when judging will commence on the numerous classes.

The show, taking place on lands kindly donated by the Cullen, Whelan and Redmond families, will feature all the usual horse, pony and sheep classes, as well as show jumping and an inter-hunter chase.

There are also numerous horticultu­re, home cooking, home industries, arts and crafts classes and a plethora of competitio­ns of all interests for children to enter. New to this year’s show is a Best Dressed Lady competitio­n, with €250 in prize money to be won. The prize is sponsored by the Fashion Showhouse of the South East, Noreen O’Donnell’s boutique on Quay Street in New Ross.

There are perpetual cups and trophies to be won for the best exhibitors in all classes.

The standard of entries is always high in all classes and as always at Adamstown Show there will be a very keen interest in the winner of various classes in all the different sections of the show.

Another very attractive class for the Adamstown Show this year is the All Ireland Tattersall­s Red Mills Thoroughbr­ed Brood Mare Championsh­ip, with another €1,500 in prize money from first to tenth and nomination­s to Stallions.

Another attraction to this year’s show is the Coolmore Puissance. Entries for the dog show as well horse and pony jumping take place on the field. Any equestrian enquiries should be directed to Patrice Byrne on 087 6166926 and for all trade enquires contact Eunan Flood on 087 6143207.

JUMPING

Always a major attraction at the Adamstown Show is the horse and pony jumping competitio­ns. The welcome addition of a fourth jumping arena has helped greatly in the efficient running of the show jumping events.

In the showjumpin­g section, the Coolmore Puissance The Jumping in the Village has a prize fund of €2,000.

Events in this include the 1.10m Cooney Furlong competitio­n which has a prize fund of €1,000, along with a cup and sash and the 148cms 1.10m Slaney Foods Search for a Star, which has a prize fund of €500 and the Shannon Stone Trophy.

The 1m Wexford and Doagh Equestrian has a prize fund of €300 and finally the T&A Byrne Agri Contractor­s for young riders 1m had a prize fund of €300 coupled with crystal and a rug.

HUNT CHASE

Organised by the Wexford Hunt Club, the Inter Hunt Chase is always a most exciting event and again this year the winning team will qualify for the R.D.S in August.

VINTAGE

Vintage enthusiast­s will be in their element with the large entry of vintage tractors and machinery, which will be on display at the show. The eagerly awaited parade and presentati­on to vintage exhibitors will take place in the afternoon.

DOG SHOW

Perfect pooches, preened to perfection can be seen at the keenly con tested dog show.

This event has grown in popularity in recent years with more and more exhibitors competing in different classes, with all winners vying for the coveted ‘Dog of the Show’ Trophy.

SHEEP

With the sheep industry improving, the sheep classes at the Adamstown Show are well supported this year. There will be upwards of twenty sheep classes on the day.

TRADE STANDS

A firm favourite at the Adamstown Show are the numerous trade stands. This very popular section has grown immensely over the past number of years and last year there was over fifty trade stands with everything on offer.

The Adamstown Show hosts numerous other attraction­s such as children’s amusements, an animal pets corner, traditiona­l butter making, dancers and lots more. Parking facilities at the Adamstown Show are always second to none with lots of car parking space available adjacent to all the atmosphere and action.

The hard working officers and committee of the Adamstown Show have put in a huge effort to have this year’s show the best ever. Particular thanks is extended to all our sponsors.

There is something for every member of the family, young and not so young to relax and enjoy and meet old and new friends.

Patrons and exhibitors are asked to attend as early as possible and have a most enjoyable day out with all the family.
