Al fresco pool tournament raises €1,200

-

TWO PUBS from Fethard-on-Sea village, Molloy’s Bar and Droopy’s, ‘pooled their resources’ and held a pool tournament with a difference recently which raised more than €1,200 for seriously ill Tintern youth Rory Whelan.

Droopy loaned his pool table to Molloys for the duration of the tournament and an impromptu game of pool took place on the street of Fethard on Sunday morning, June 18.

The game could not be completed due to the build up of traffic in the village so the table was moved closer to Molloy’s doo. Then it was discovered the table was too wide to be brought inside.

By the time a working cordless screwdriver was located, (it was Sunday morning afterall), the game of pool was completed and the doors of Molloy’s Bar had to be taken down to allow the table to be moved indoors.

A photograph of one of the outdoor pool games - which was posted on Molloy’s Bar Facebook page - soon went viral, featuring in a number of online publications.

According to John Nolan, proprietor of Droopy’s no balls were damaged in the completion of this operation!

Rory, 13, from Tintern, Saltmills, who is a sixth class pupil in Poulfur National School, is recovering in hospital having beeen was diagnosed in April with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a condition where the immune system attacks the body’s nervous system and muscles. The community has held several fundraisers for him in recent weeks, raising money for him and his family.
