Cllr Michael Whelan has welcomed a grant for €86,744 for a pontoon in Duncannon. This pontoon will be available to marine leisure and tourist boats, as well as the fishing industry.

Cllr Whelan said: ‘This initiative should increase the number of tourists visiting the peninsula and also attract people for boat trips and other water activities.’

Wexford County Council secured this grant with the help from New Ross Municipal Council, Hook Tourism and some local people. The grant is 70 per cent of the overall cost.

The project is hoped to be in place for 2018. Cllr Michael Whelan said this is good news for Duncannon and the Hook peninsula.
