Moll maintains wonderful form

-

SOME VERY good runs were witnessed at Enniscorthy Dog Track on Thursday.

The bitch in top form at the moment, Piercestown Moll, was again the star in race eight, an A0/1, as this 56 lb. bitch stormed to another impressive win.

She came home two lengths ahead of Ballinclare Thea who herself is only 55 lb. and ran a fine race also in the runner-up spot in a fast time of 28.87.

Moll was recording her 17th race win and is completely home bred by ‘Shanks’ Whelan (Piercestown Sand-Piercestown Ping), who said top goods do not come in small packages.

Race seven saw the Ballinclare prefix in the winning enclosure as Ballinclare Lad got away well and led the field a merry dance, coming home two lengths too good for Ballinaboola Net in a good 28.93.

Killinick owners Helen and John Toft had a very good week as Helen’s Cosy Scolari scored a nice win on the Monday night. And then on Saturday night in Cork in heat four of the Irish Independent Laurels, Cosy Socks followed up a recent blistering run in Waterford with a super performance.

Leading from traps, she pulled away from her field to score by four and a half lengths in a very fast 28.26, her third win from eight starts.

There was a big night of finals in Waterford on Saturday also, with two notable Wexford successes. Firstly the Anton Butler (Coolballow) owned and trained Telex Honey was another to use early pace to good effect when taking up the lead off the second bend before going away to score by three and a half lengths in a good 28.93 in the Boland’s Citroen A5 stake final.

Barntown trainer Nick Turner had the last say when taking the A1 final when his charge Coco Blaze put in another super run. After winning his semi-final in a superb 28.48, he turned on the after-burners again to score in a best of the night 28.43 for owner Mary Flynn (Waterford).
