Please email any articles for publication in the Standard to me by 9 a.m. on Monday mornings at grooney@hotmail.com, thanks.

THE FORGE VINTAGE CLUB

Our members are just back from their overnight trip to Dungarvan last weekend. The group departed from Clongeen shorty after 9 a.m. on Saturday morning and headed into New Ross where we had a short stop in gala for a coffee. They then proceeded on to Waterford, from there on into Kilmeaden where the dinner pit stop was held in O’Donacas.

Back on the road again via the back roads through Bunmahon and to the final destination of Dungarvan. The tractors did a few laps of the town before parking up in Lawlors Hotel for the night. Shortly after 11 a.m. on Sunday morning, they took to the roads again for the journey home and arrived back in Foulksmills shortly after 5 p.m. where we were treated to dinner in the Oak Tree. The groupl would like to thank Mary and Larry for their hospitality. Overall, a great weekend was had by all.

The draw for our sponsorship cards will be held over the next few weeks and more information will follow on this shortly. We would like to thank our sponsors of the prises who were: Crosbie Transport, Mythen Construction, The Horse and Hound and Whitford House Hotel. A very big thank you to everyone who sponsored any of our members or made donations over the weekend. All the money raised from this event will be given to Hospice Homecare and other local charities later in the year.

OVER-35S SOCCER

Normality was resumed last weekend when a good 7-a-side game took place in Horetown in energy sapping conditions which made it excellent in terms of trying to loose a few pounds, which several of us could do without. The game finished almost on the bell at 6 p.m. on 4-3 scoreline after the eventually winners had come from the half-time 3-2 arrears situation. There were no Whelan’s in sight for a change, so the tackling was mild enough all round.

We’re still down a few other regulars and we’d like to maintain a group of 14 at least, preferably 16, for the next few weeks before holidays start to kick off. If you’re thinking of joining a normally competitive but entertaining Saturday afternoons footy, please don’t hesitate to give Dave a call at 086 8596627. Please get to Horetown at 4.20 p.m. for 4.30 p.m. kick off where the cost is only €2 per player.

ADULT CAMOGIE

The first round of the camogie Junior A championship will be played in Fr Wheeler Park this (Tues) evening. St Martin’s will provide the opposition in what is certain to be an exciting game. Our girls have been preparing very diligently for the championship and no stone has been left unturned.

There have been many training sessions and several practice games have also been played. The latest on Friday night last was an outstanding success when the girls traveled to Waterford and overcame Ferrybank, who were Junior Champions in Waterford last year, on a 3-11 to 3-9 scoreline. All is now set, so come to the park this evening (Tuesday the 27th) and given them your support.

SOCIAL EVENING

A Social Evening takes place in Mary Teresa Redmond’s, Millview, Foulksmills on Saturday, July 8, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. This event is in aid of Co. Wexford Community Workshop (Enniscorthy) CLG. Refreshments will be served all evening. There will be musical entertainment on stage with many talented musicians and a bouncy castle for the children. Please support this worthy cause and bring along a friend.
