FÉILE CAMOGIE

Last weekend our under-14 girls took part in Féile 2017. Our Host team was from Portlaoise and 26 of their players travelled down on Friday to stay two nights with allocated families from the parish. Our group consisted of Clarecastle, Portlaoise and Oylegate.

Although the girls played well in all their games their opponents were that much bigger and stronger then our young team of half under-12 and then under-14. Saturday afternoon in the blistering heat the bus brought the B/B team to Myshall on the Carlow border to play a tough game of camogie.

This ended the girls in Féile 2017 but none the less all the squad had a brilliant weekend making plenty of new friends and the crack was mighty on the bus journey to and from Carlow. Tír na nÓg was the venue Saturday evening for some food and a disco.

Thanks to our generous Sponsors Gary Sinnott, Lar Whelan and Marty Kinsella having kitted out the girls and their mentors, which they all looked great by the way. Also without out these great trainers/leaders of Shem Anglim, Frankie Scallan and Ken Foley there would be no guidance or preparation for the team so a special Thank you to you for all your time and effort in training and preparing for the event.

Thanks to the parents of these children who helped out before and during the weekend from making tea to all the Féile fundraising events to opening their homes to the travelling teams. A word of thanks to Monique and Breda for making sure all the paperwork was done to a T.

And on a final note thank you to the 24 girls on the Panel, who put on the club colours and took to the field and played their hearts out in their four matches. All in all a great weekend was had by all. All photographs from Féile 2017 are up on our Facebook page.

CORACH NEWS

Corach welcomed Taghmon Utd to Danescastle on a beautiful summers evening on Friday last. Both sides going well in the league and having played out a 2-2 draw earlier on, this game was expected to be a tight affair, and so it proved.

Both defences comfortable early on as neither side was in the ascendancy. Space in midfield was also hard to come by as both teams pressed the midfield area, none willing to allow their opponents time on the ball. And it was no surprise that it remained scoreless at the interval.

On the resumption it was more of the same as neither team was willing to concede territory in this very tight affair. That was to change however when a corner from Taghmon Utd was headed back across goal and Jason McGloughlin found himself in space and he finished well low to the net beyond Toddy Barry in the Corach goal.

From then on it was Corach, who had most of the ball as they pushed forward in search of the equaliser, but apart from a few half chances from Emmet Deering and Alan Diskin, Taghmon looked comfortable in defence as they were happy to sit back and absorb whatever Corach could muster and play counter attacking football.

One final Corach attack saw the ball break to Marty Keane on the edge of the box whose fierce shot came back off the crossbar and the final whistle sounded moments later to send Taghmon into the semi-final while Corach will now try their luck in the shield.

Congratulations to this week’s split-the-pot winner Breda O’Sullivan, Carrig, picking up €684. Well done Breda, thanks once again to everyone for your continued support.

The Corach Ramblers FAI summer Soccer School takes place from third to July 7. Five days of fun for €65 including training gear. Book now to confirm your child’s place at booking.summersoccerschools.ie/ login.
