Docks Hotel set to reopen after sale
THE Docks Hotel in New Ross is due to reopen later this year or in early 2018, after it was bought by a British businessman at auction on Friday, July 14.
The 10,000 sq ft hotel, which closed in November 2014, was the subject of an opening bid of €275,000 and was withdrawn. Following negotiations the sale of the hotel by PN O’Gorman auctioneers with joint agents, Colliers International, went through.
Formerly known as Portovino bar and restaurant, the premises overlooks the River Barrow.
Its asking price was reduced by almost half for the auction, which attracted three parties.
Auctioneer Ann Carton said: ‘The buyer is based in the UK and has family connections here. He has very exciting plans for it and hopefully it will reopen it as a small hotel later this year. We got the result we wanted and it’s another positive development for the town.’
The hotel is a mill conversion on the approach to New Ross town adjoining a spacious local authority car park. Its hotel licence has lapsed and needs to be renewed.
