Walk raised nearly €20,000 over ten years

JOE’S WALK IN GRAIGUENAMANAGH

-

THERE was a great turnout at the tenth annual Joe Boland Memorial Walk in Graiguenamanagh last week.

The walk which is organised by the Boland family in memory of their father Joe raises vital funds for the Irish Cancer Society each year.

This year was the tenth and final year of the 5km walk along the River Barrow.

Organiser Karen Boland said she was delighted with the success of the walk and with the large turnout. Everyone who took part in the memorial walk received a special medal this year to mark the final year of the walk.

Karen also paid tribute to her mother, Mary, whom she said ‘was the backbone of the walk’.

This year’s walk raised a total of €2,040 for the Irish Cancer Society bringing the amount raised during the walk’s ten year history to €19,125.

Karen said she had been overwhelmed by the support she received each year. ‘People travelled from near and far in memory of dad. It really meant the world to me and all the family.’
