GIRLS FOOTBALL

Our under-10s played a blitz in Cushinstown last Saturday. They won one game against St James, drew another against Cushinstown and also lost one against Kilmore. The girls played very well and we are very proud of their performance. The under-10s will play Gusserane this Monday evening in Clongeen at 7 p.m. so best of luck girls.

Well done to the under-12 girls’ football team on their great win against Clonard/Volunteers, the final scoreline reading 6-10 v 2-02 in our favour. The scorers were: Sarah Bennett 3-8 and Kaelah Farrell 3-2. The girls are in flying form with five wins out of five – the semi-final, here we come.

A massive well done to our under-14 girls on their impressive display of football against the Shamrocks. The Clongeen girls won in style commanding the game with the score finishing a massive Clongeen 12-15 v’s Shamrocks’ 0-4. The scorers were: Theresa White 1-4, Grace Donovan 2-5, Orlaith Butler 1-3, Megan McDonald 0-1, Amy Doyle 2-0 and Sarah Bennett with a whopping 6-2. The girls will now play the county semi-final in Clongeen on Saturday, August 12, the time is yet to be confirmed. Please come along and show your support to this fantastic bunch of very talented girls.

LADIES’ FOOTBALL

Well done to the Clongeen ladies’ football team getting back to winning ways by beating Fethard in the championship last Monday night. The Clongeen girls will be happy with their performance on the night, going in with a narrow half-time lead of 2-4 to 1-3. Clongeen then pulled away in the second half and looked the more determined of the two sides.

The Clongeen team looked solid in defence, defending in numbers, they worked the ball well from defence to attack with some lovely passes and exchanges in play. Clongeen racked up a tally of scores leading the girls to great team victory. The final scoreline was Clongeen 3-15 to Fethard’s 2-5. The girls now take on the Shelmaliers in the quarter-final on Monday, July 31, in Clongeen, where the time is also still to be confirmed – best of luck girls.

CAMOGIE NEWS

Well done to Chloe Foxe and the Wexford camogie team beating Limerick 1-13 to 0-11 on Saturday away in Limerick. Chloe scored an impressive 0-7 points to help the Wexford girls to victory. They now take on Dublin in the all-Ireland quarter-finals on August 5 where the venue and time is yet to e confirmed.

Clongeen camogie teams are on the road this week with the under-10s traveling to Horeswood to play this Friday evening, July 29, to take on the locals in the under-10 Fun Games League.

Prior to that, on Tuesday the 25th, our Junior A team must go all the way to the Craanford for their third round clash. They had a great start to their campaign with a clear cut win over St Martin’s at home a couple of weeks ago. Here’s hoping they can continue with their winning ways and collect three more championship points in the home of the favourites to win the Junior A title. Craanford is the place to be this Tuesday evening.

COISTE NA NÓG

There will be practice hurling matches for Under-sixes and under-eights against Geraldine O’Hanrahans on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in Clongeen.

Our under-10 boys Hurling team had a blitz in Rathangan on Saturday last. Yet again due to a fantastic turn out on our behalf and the withdrawal of a few teams we were forced to put two teams in. They were very successful playing six games in total, with four wins, one draw and only one loss. A huge thanks to St Anne’s for hosting the event. Both our teams gave a superb account of themselves both on and off the pitch. Everyone put in a huge effort and played outstanding in all their games. Thanks to all the parents for making the effort and getting the boys/girls there.

Our panel of players were: Jamie Breen, Conor Burke, Cathal Curtis, Josh Donnelly, Seán Eustace, Leyon Purcell, Martin Wall, Laura McCarthy/Bennett, Sarah-Kate Hopkins, William Bennett, Seamie Whelan, Dylan Bennett, Kaleb Blake, Conor Kilkenny, Colin Murphy, Luke Murphy, Seán Óg Murphy, Jack Quigley and Killian Whelan.

Also, during the past week we had a great win for our under-12 hurlers in beating New Ross by 5-7 to 0-1. So a well done to all involved there.

We’d also like to congratulate our under-14 hurlers who finished off the round-robin stage of their championship with a comprehensive 5-15 to 2-3 victory over neighbours Bannow-Ballymitty, topping their group in the process. Despite playing with a strong breeze, we were slow to start and it took a Shane Culleton goal midway through the first half to settle us. We were well on top after that and early scores just after half-time ensured this was a game that we never looked like loosing. We must wait for a few weeks to see who our opposition will be in the knock-out stages and in the meantime return to football with a game against Cushinstown next Thursday evening.

The team was: Dean Sinnott, Jack Roche, Michael Mulligan, Fionn Mullally, John Whelan, Michael Dundon (1-5), Patrick Finn, Adam Whelan, Cathal Murphy (01), Luke Murphy, Shane Culleton (2-2), Cormac Kiely (0-1), Eoghan Twomey (0-1), Ryan O’Grady (24), Jack Rossiter (0-1), Martin Doyle, Thomas Coleman, Bryan Hopkins, Paul Murphy. Under-14 football training will be this Tuesday, July 25, at 7 p.m. in Clongeen, finishing at about 8.20 p.m. there will also be a match on Thursday v Cushinstown.

Well done to our under-16 hurlers who beat Adamstown on Monday evening in Fethard. The result was Moguegeen Gaels 6-12 to Adamstown’s 1-8.

Finally, our Moguegeen Gaels minors will be playing their next hurling match on Wednesday evening away to Shamrocks in Enniscorthy at 7.30 p.m. Best of luck to all those involved this week.

OVER-35S SOCCER

Another excellent 6-a-side game took place last weekend in pretty hot conditions where the game ended at six bells for the bibs finished the game with the last kick of the game being a goal giving them a two goal advantage in Horetown last Saturday afternoon. With the all-Ireland Hurling taking a few players away, plus holidays, still having a decent number show up as we approach our fourth year this August is a great credit to all those involved who generally enjoy every game.

The pitch is being well looked after and marked by Anthony Quigley, who has the whole grounds looking superb as the new soccer season is set to open again in the coming month or so. Again, if any newcomers would like to get involved, you’d be more than welcome to come along at about 4.20 p.m. for the 4.30 p.m. kick-off where the cost is only €2 per player. Please don’t hesitate to give Dave a call at 086 8596627 for any further information. Penny Bank subscriptions one Friday morning each month from 09: 00-10.30 a.m. at Duncannon National School.
