NEW ROSS GARDA IN BRAVE RIVER RESCUE

A NEW ROSS garda has been hailed a hero having rescued a man who got into difficulty in the River Suir in Waterford City on Saturday night.

Garda Michelle Power was on the quay travelling through the city when she spotted a man enter the water.

The New Ross woman sprang to action and left her vehicle, running to the quay side, from where she used a life buoy to reach the 26-year-old, helping him ashore. The off-duty garda contacted the emergency services and the Waterford man was treated at the scene and at University Hospital Waterford.

Sergeant Eddie Wilde praised Garda Power’s quick thinking and speedy reaction at the scene.
