The 3rd Annual Kilmore Village Spud Fest is due to take place from Friday (August 11) to Monday, August 14, and what better way to spend one of the last weekends of the summer than joining in the family fun.

One of the highlights will be the Mr Spud ‘Beauty’ pageant at which some of the local lads will be strutting their stuff, all in the best possible taste.

Organisers say all the funds raised over the weekend will go to the local national school and to a fund for the developmen­t of a new playground in Kilmore village.

The opening is on Friday night with a kiddies parade winding its way through Kilmore village. On Saturday it’s Party in the Páirc from (3 p.m. to 9 p.m.) in the festival site in the heart of the village and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon a traditiona­l Festival Field Day will take place.

The festival ends on Monday with a free party Evening of food, music and entertainm­ent for Kilmore and surroundin­g parish seniors and active retirement groups. live music, circus performers, puppet shows, puppet making, clowns, Shakespear­e in the Wood and more. Entry is €10 per car with an extra charge for the barbecue. Gates open 10 a.m. Starts at 1 p.m.
