Sidecar outfit in top form
THE SIDECAR outfit of Mark Codd and Liam Gordon had a great weekend at Mondello Park in their new machine, securing two second places and a third in a very rained-out event.
Saturday morning was their first test ride in the new machine, so to get those kind of results was just fantastic especially with the weather conditions they had to race in.
The guys were over the moon coming home with three trophies each. The next races for them will be up north at the Bishopscourt racetrack where they will be hoping to get more points on the board and keep their third place in the championship secure, if not move up into second spot.
Meanwhile, county Wexford resident Graham Whitmore is the latest addition to the Masters Superbike Championship young racer of the year nominations following a maiden Supersport Cup win at Mondello Park in July.
Graham is the fourth competitor to receive a 2017 nomination. The winner of the final will receive a prize worth over €10,000 courtesy of the award’s supporters, Mondello Park owner Martin Birrane, Dawn International and AJ Plumbing Supplies.
Graham also had a good weekend in early August when he got a third in the cup and sixth in the pro in the first race, and then fourth in the cup and seventh in the pro in his second outing of the weekend.
The third race was cancelled due to weather conditions. Graham is also off to Bishopscourt for the next round of the MSB Masters
Road racer Graham Kennedy headed north to the world’s fastest road race, the Ulster GP, and raced amongst some of the world’s top road racing stars but had a very unlucky week.
Brake problems on the BMW 1000 eventually led to a slide-off but he was okay despite a few scrapes and bruises.
Then the Yamaha R6 was not an option either with serious handling problems that could not be sorted, so it turned out to be a bit of a disaster for Graham.
