LATE ANDY MURPHY

It was with deep regret that we learned another of our old stock passed on with the death last week of Andrew (Andy) Murphy from Brownsford Castle. Having lived a wonderful life of 91 years nevertheless his death meant that one of our oldest parishioners had gone to his eternal reward.

Andy was a hard-working progressive farmer all his life and a devoted family man who was known and loved by all with whom he came into contact with. An avid follower of both Tullogher and Kilkenny County teams down the years himself and his wife, Mary, were a familiar sight at all their games. He was a shrewd judge of what made a good hurler and wasn’t slow in saying what made a bad one either.

He was waked in the family home at Brownsford Castle where people came in their legions to pay their final respects to one of nature’s gentlemen. The remains were removed to St Aidan’s Church, Tullogher, on Saturday evening and burial took place in Mullinarrigle Cemetery after Requiem Mass on Sunday. Andy is survived by his wife Mary, sons, Tom and John, daughter, Catherine, brothers, Tom, Fr John and Billy, sisters, Mary (O Shea) and Sr Pius, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and a large circle of friends to whom we extend our sincere sympathy in their sad loss.
